I don't know if this happens with the stock XD sear or not. I installed an early Springer precision sear and it was biting into my magazines. I needed an over travel adjustment anyway, so I drilled and tapped my trigger and put a set screw in it to stop on the locking block. This took care of my sear biting problem, and gave me an over travel adjustment. I didn't want the screw hole to penetrate all the way through so I just filed the head to the proper length

XD-45 Sear Biting Magazine FIX

As an update, the sear is still hitting the back of the magazine, just very much lighter It could be fixed completely by filing down the sear (which I wouldn't recommend) or the better idea would be to put a thin adhesive backed strip of plastic on the back of the magazine... What is happening is the magazine is blown back when the case is extracted and it hits the other (waiting) cartridge. I have a ten round magazine with about 5000 rounds through it that is starting to split. You could of course just make a cartridge recipe that fixes this, a light round (200 grains or less) and a relatively light dose of mid burning powder (Winchester 231 5.0 grains) and an almost heavy crimp. And put a beveled rim on the case as seen in my SWC article. Any ideas or comments please email. This really isn't a bad thing, that a lot of rounds and I would rather the gun beat up the magazines than it's self. alexandermcalpine@gmail.com thanks!
